Justin Madron offers guided hunts for ruffed grouse and American woodcock in Virginia, West Virginia, and Michigan. With decades of hunting experience and a deep passion for wild birds and good dog work, Justin delivers thoughtful, rewarding hunts tailored to each guest's goals and experience level.

Each fall, Justin joins the guide team at Superior Upland in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, where he spends several weeks chasing ruffed grouse in classic aspen and alder covers. Back home in Virginia and West Virginia, he guides on public and private lands, sharing his love of the rugged Appalachian terrain and the challenge it brings to both hunters and dogs.

Whether you're new to upland hunting or looking to chase wild birds behind a seasoned pointing dog, Justin offers a no-frills, boots-on-the-ground hunting experience that honors the traditions of the uplands. All hunts are fair chase over pointing dogs and focused on wild birds only.

Hunts are intentionally low‑pressure and tailored to the group. The emphasis is on learning, dog work, and enjoying a full day in the uplands, not checking boxes or chasing numbers.

Every hunt is built around fair‑chase, wild bird hunting in places that demand effort and reward patience. These are the kinds of hunts where the experience matters as much as the outcome.

All hunts are private and fully guided over pointing dogs. Rates are per day and include one-on-one guiding, dog handling, and light field lunches.

Travel rates may apply for locations outside of central Virginia or West Virginia. Michigan guiding is offered exclusively through Superior Upland.

Note on Wild Bird Hunts

All hunts are conducted on wild birds only. No preserve or pen‑raised birds are used. Because of this, birds are never guaranteed. Success depends on habitat, weather, bird movement, and the day itself. Justin works hard to put hunters in the best cover and on the best birds available, but part of what makes wild bird hunting special is that every day in the field is earned. Even on great ground with good dog work, some days are quiet and others are unforgettable.
